Family Therapy & Parent Education

Our adult sessions are designed to create a safe and nurturing environment where family members can freely express themselves and work through challenges. With the guidance of our registered therapist, your family will engage in exciting activities and interactions that promote emotional growth and relationship development. This service also includes supporting family members who has a member actively involved in therapy (with the clinician or another service).

Support for Families

It can be difficult for the whole family when one or multiple members are struggling with mental health. We therefore provide support for the entire family to help them understand the process of recovery and how the challenges are affecting the wellbeing of the individual family members and the family unit. These sessions also provide an opportunity to learn more about different mental health difficulties in the form of parent education sessions.

Family Support Overview

In family support sessions, the therapist starts with an assessment to understand family dynamics and goals. Families collaboratively set session goals. The therapist creates a safe environment for everyone to express thoughts and feelings, emphasizing active listening. Sessions include activities to improve communication, empathy, and problem-solving. The therapist identifies issues causing conflicts and guides the family in mediating them. Parents learn effective parenting techniques and strategies for supporting their child's emotional health. Coping mechanisms for stress are taught, and the therapist helps understand each member's behaviors and needs. Follow-up sessions review progress and adjust plans as needed, with homework assignments to practice skills.

Holistic Approach

Involving families in child therapy allows for a more holistic understanding of the child's environment, relationships, and dynamics. Family support can provide valuable insights into the child's behaviour and emotional well-being

Consistency and Reinforcement

When families are involved in therapy, they can reinforce and support the strategies and techniques learned during sessions. Consistent support at home can enhance the effectiveness of therapy and promote lasting positive changes.

Parental Involvement

Parents play a significant role in a child's development and well-being. By involving parents in therapy, they can learn effective parenting strategies, communication techniques, and ways to support their child's emotional and behavioural needs. This is also an opportunity for the therapist to ensure caregivers attend to their needs and implement self-care.

Long-Term Success

Family support can contribute to long-term success and positive outcomes for the child. Building a supportive and nurturing family environment can help the child develop resilience, coping skills, and emotional regulation abilities that extend beyond the therapy sessions.
